Why this petition matters

Government pension funds should not be paid to those that broke their duty to the public trust.

John Bilda, Drew Rankin, and James Sullivan were all convicted of misusing federal funds by spending public money on repeated lavish trips to the Kentucky Derby.

Despite the implications, the City of Norwich has stood by these people, paying legal bills for their defense and committing to pension payments.  The annual pension payment for Bilda alone is reportedly 147,297.22 (see TheDay 7/17/19).  Assumedly, this is to be paid at least until his death.  For a man presently in his 50s, this will be a lot of money.  Times 3 when the other convicts are included.

Connecticut Statute 1-110a provides, in part, “if any public official or state or municipal employee is convicted of or pleads guilty or nolo contendere to any crime related to state or municipal office in state criminal or federal criminal court, the Attorney General shall apply to the Superior Court for an order to revoke or reduce the pension.”

Anyone with an electric bill from Norwich Public Utilities, that does business in Norwich, or owns property in Norwich will contribute the pension fund for Norwich Public Utilities.

Considering the City moved swiftly to protect Bilda, we need to act.  Your voice must be heard, or the Attorney General may also take little action against the three convicts.

This was our money they spent, and we have spent enough.  We do not need to spend more.

Please sign this petition.  Please share your thoughts for the Attorney General.
